Alles in Butter

A search for meaning in the simultaneity of the universe

The Day Bobby Ewing Died, Hannes ate no Butter. Lili Marleen sang for Werner and Jochen, and the sharks caught fish. Lola ran while Amélie loved. “All smooth as butter,” they said - then the machine arrived.

The true story begins in the early ’80s. An 11-year-old boy is kidnapped, held for seven days, and released for 3 million Deutschmarks. His father, a financial expert and Hollywood producer, is already in pre-trial detention on suspicion of fraud. His kidnapper is now a successful inventor and millionaire.

Real facts: curious, witty, entertaining, striking - barely fitting into a coherent story.
A web of a tale unfolds, woven from fragments of different biographies and scattered discourse, full of red threads and unraveling stitches that never quite reach a conclusion, yet leave their traces in one another.
